Croeso and a warm welcome to Lampit Cove Cottages from Rick and Merrill Mabey.

We first discovered this derelict stone building more than ten years ago while taking an evening walk along Fishguard's Marine Walk. As the building is a local landmark in a spectacular cliff top position looking down on the boats in Lower Town we felt compelled to find out why it was in such a neglected state.

A bit of detective work and a few planning applications later and it was ours. We renamed the building Lampit Cove Cottages as it overlooks the bay, Lampit Mawr, but locally it is known as the Drill Hall because it was built by the army about 100 years ago and used for training by the terretorial army for many years. It was also a venue for local dances and a place for youngsters to take examinations before it became a builders store.

When we took possession the site was overgrown and the building in need of total restoration, including a new roof. The conversion work was a big challenge for us with our limited knowledge of old stone buildings. We employed a local building firm who won an award for their work.

The project took over our lives and we decided to move to Fishguard to live instead of being weekend visitors. For Merrill it was a case of coming home as I was brought up in nearby Croesgoch. For Rick, living in Pembrokeshire was something he had always wanted to do since first visiting the county.

We hope you will enjoy the cottages and their fantastic position as much as we do.
