Around Fishguard
The area has some spectacular sandy beaches at Newport and Whitesands, which are just a 20 minute drive away, with Newgale beach just a little further. All north Pembrokeshire’s coastline is within easy reach; with small coves and harbours all linked by the wonderful Pembrokeshire coastal footpath.
The Welsh name for Fishguard is Abergwaun, which translates as the mouth of the Gwaun. The Gwaun Valley is a beautiful wooded valley where there are ancient woodlands to explore and lovely walks along the river. For more challenging walks head towards the Preseli Hills which are renowned for their mystical quality and this is where the Bluestones of Stonehenge originated from.
Explore the surrounding towns of Newport, Goodwick and St Davids and the more remote villages for country pubs and restaurants.
Fishguard Bay is ideal for windsurfing, kayaking and boating.
Fishguard has a folk festival which takes place during the weekend of the late May Bank Holiday weekend. And during July the annual Fishguard International Music festival takes place and this is followed during August with the Aberjazz festival weekend.
